The effect of misalignment on the performance of tilting pad thrust bearing with TEHD coupling model and turbulence model

A thermoelastohydrodynamic (TEHD) coupling model is developed to study the static performance of a heavy-duty tilting pad thrust bearing (TPTB) under effect axis misalignment. To ensure validity in calculating thermoelastic deformation, calculation accuracy mechanical and thermal deformations used TEHD verified by finite element method (FEM). The influence on flow state prediction determined using different axial loads, numerical analysis turbulence centrifugal inertia term temperature conducted at various operating rotation speeds. Compared with aligned performance, characteristic distribution each misaligned angles obtained. misalignment will cause local overheating thrust-bearing pads, especially for TPTD. results this can help improve TPTB characteristics avoid harmful effects. Therefore, it necessary consider effects misalignment, turbulence, deformation design bearings.
